Our final event for 2022 was a book signing by well known Australian writers Annie Seaton and Fiona McArthur at the Ballina Library. An audience of more than 40 filled a cosy space screened by bookshelves to hear fascinating insights into the writing process, sources of inspiration for strong stories, and balancing the demands of a writing career against the realities of daily life like housework and cooking.

Annie’s contribution centred on her new work East of Alice set in the extraordinary landscape around Alice Springs and a mystery linking early European settlement in the region with the present.

Fiona outlined her journey from rural midwife to published writer and her latest work, The Opal Miner’s Daughter, an outback romance built around doctors practicing in the opal mining community of Lightning Ridge.

After the year’s isolation and flood disaster, this event was a joyous opportunity for four of our members to socialize together and talk writing. And we couldn’t resist the Ballina Library’s book sale.
